New Etihad drone footage shows progress on Man City stadium expansion

Manchester City's ambitious Etihad Stadium expansion is edging closer to completion, with fresh progress visible across the site during the latest construction update on Friday, 24 July, which was uploaded to YouTube by SS Skies.

While the North Stand expansion element was completed ahead of the final game of the 2025/26 Premier League season, the wider project, which includes a new hotel and museum, still has a way to go.

Etihad Stadium renovation continues

Work continues at pace on several key elements of the £300 million redevelopment, with new sections of the stadium's skywalk structure now in place and additional steel components arriving on site. Construction activity remains high throughout the development, particularly around the future fan zone and public realm areas, where groundwork and bricklaying are progressing.

The adjoining hotel is also nearing completion externally. Landscaping has advanced significantly, with more trees planted around the building, while sections of the roof have now been finished with gravel.

Elsewhere, Medlock Square continues to evolve, with brickwork extending across the ground level and heavy machinery removing temporary structures as internal works continue behind closed doors. Joe Mercer Way is also coming together nicely, with newly painted concrete and the first sections of decorative brickwork now installed.

Inside the stadium, preparations for the new Premier League season are well underway. The new playing surface has now been fully laid and is already being watered and cut, while specialist robotic equipment has been used to strengthen the turf ahead of the campaign.

Meanwhile, demolition work around the stadium also continues, with one building almost completely removed and crews now beginning work on a second structure.

The target remains for the entire project to be completed by the end of this year, and given the pace they are now working at, this doesn't feel unrealistic.

Next season is set to be a strange one for Manchester City fans now that Pep Guardiola is no longer in charge at the Etihad Stadium. Therefore, it could be the perfect season for a new fan zone to be created, particularly as there are no guarantees about Enzo Maresca. If things don't go well, at least the fans will have a new museum to visit to reminisce about the good old days.
