Nottingham Forest fans issue plea to council over City Ground stadium expansion – “Let’s make history”

A Nottingham Forest supporters' group has issued a plea to the local council over expansion plans for the City Ground.

The supporters' group have written an open letter to local councillors asking to back expansion plans for the club's stadium, saying “it is the City Ground's time”.

Committee to meet over proposed stadium changes

Rushcliffe Borough Council's planning committee is set to meet on Wednesday (September 16) evening to consider applications from Nottingham Forest on their proposed changes to the City Ground.

The committee previously granted full planning permission for the club to increase its capacity to 35,000 in June 2025, and the club have since submitted another set of applications to increase the capacity to over 50,000.

The application consists of a bid for full planning permission to redevelop the Peter Taylor Stand and Trent End, to demolish existing buildings and structures and outline planning permission to redevelop the Brian Clough Stand.

The plans have received backing from multiple groups, including the Nottingham Forest Supporters' Trust (NFST), who have urged the authority not to let concerns over transport and supporter moment on matchdays delay the project any further.

The trust's letter to the planning committee says Wednesday's vote is a “historic opportunity for our region” and added that the fans have shown “clear and overwhelming” support for the proposals.

Asif Naidu, the NFST chair, said “the case for approval is incredibly strong. It has clear and widespread support across the region, the club has outgrown the current ground and it is a golden and rare investment opportunity.

“Any concerns over transport and supporter flow, while understandable, can be resolved and are manageable, so they shouldn't be be a barrier to giving the project the go-ahead.

“It is the City Ground's time. Let's make history on Wednesday.”
