Nottingham Forest to introduce safe standing from next season

Nottingham Forest have announced that they will introduce safe standing at the City Ground from the beginning of next season.

It was first announced that the club were holding talks about becoming the latest Premier League club to introduce safe standing in February.

‘Work set to commence in the summer months’ – Forest announce safe standing areas

Forest have announced that safe standing will be introduced at the City Ground, with “work set to commence in the summer months in time for the start of the 2024/25 season”. The club believe that this is an important step in their overall mission to improve the matchday experience for fans and maintain the passionate atmosphere on Trentside.

The plans involve the installation of approximately 2,300 safe standing spaces for home fans in the Bridgford Stand, Blocks U1 and U2, and Lower Bridgford Stand Block Z. Meanwhile, safe standing for away fans will be in the Lower Bridgford Stand Block W.

Nottingham Forest Chairman Tom Cartledge said: “By embracing safe standing, the club aims to not only to tackle the issue of persistent standing which has presented the Club with serious safety concerns in recent years, but also to enhance the stadium environment to celebrate the passionate support and dedication of our fans.

“This initiative underscores our dedication to providing the best possible match day experience for our fans whilst prioritising their safety and comfort. Safe standing represents an exciting development for Nottingham Forest, and we look forward to its introduction next season.”

Forest outline four main benefits to safe standing

In the statement released on Tuesday, Forest outlined four bullet points with the main benefits of safe standing at the City Ground. This included an enhanced atmosphere, improved visibility, flexibility and safety and security.

Forest summarised the main benefits as follows (via Nottingham Forest):

“Enhanced Atmosphere: Safe standing promotes a loud and passionate atmosphere within the stadium, allowing fans to stand together and support their team without compromising their safety or the safety of others.”

“Improved Visibility: The design and location of the safe standing areas will ensure that all supporters have an unobstructed view of the pitch, enhancing the overall match day experience for all.”

“Flexibility: Safe standing areas provide greater flexibility for fans, allowing them to choose between seated or standing positions during matches based on personal preference.”

“Safety and Security: Safe standing incorporates rigorously tested safety features, including rail seating and crowd management protocols, enhancing the well-being and safety of all those attending our matches.”
