Work continues to gather pace at Portman Road, with fresh images revealing significant progress on Ipswich Town's expanded West Stand concourse ahead of the new campaign.

The latest update comes with fewer than three weeks to go until the Tractor Boys' first home fixture of the 2026/27 season.

How Ipswich Town's West Stand looks three weeks before new season

New images from Portman Road show the club's West Stand redevelopment entering another important phase as work continues on the expanded ground-level concourse.

The photographs reveal the steel framework for a new covered external area is now in place, while construction teams are pressing on with internal fit-out work beneath the stand.

Timber framing, glazing, new entrances and utility installations are all clearly progressing, with heavy machinery and contractors remaining active across the site.

The wider project is designed to significantly improve the matchday experience by creating a larger concourse, refurbishing the FanZone, introducing automated turnstiles, relocating kiosks and increasing parking provision.

The redevelopment also aims to ease congestion around Sir Alf Ramsey Way by reconfiguring supporter access to the stadium, while the upgraded FanZone is intended to host more community events outside of matchdays.

Despite the visible progress, Ipswich are yet to confirm exactly how supporter access arrangements will operate when the new season begins, with under three weeks remaining before the first home game.

The West Stand project is viewed as the first stage of a wider long-term vision for Portman Road, with future plans potentially including an additional tier before attention eventually turns to a full redevelopment of the Cobbold Stand.

FGG says: Fan access before Ipswich's first game is still unknown

The progress is encouraging, but the key question now is whether enough will be ready for supporters by the opening home fixture.

With fan access plans still to be confirmed, Ipswich supporters will be hoping for clarity sooner rather than later as the countdown to the new season continues.
