Pubs near Anfield: Where to get a pre-match pint in Liverpool

The 2024/25 Premier League season is fast approaching, and Liverpool will begin the new campaign without legendary manager Jürgen Klopp. His successor, Arne Slot, will be looking for a quick start, and the early signs are encouraging, following a trio of wins during the club’s pre-season tour of the US.

Fans will have a chance to see Slot and the team before the first game of the season, as Liverpool host Sevilla on 10 August. So, here is a guide to the best pubs near Anfield.

This is one of the most popular matchday destinations for Liverpool fans and is nicknamed the “birthplace of Liverpool FC”, with roots dating back to the 1870s. It is a three-minute walk from the stadium and is open three hours before kick-off on matchdays.

There is a wide range of draught beer, along with pub food classics for fans to enjoy. On their website, they describe the venue as follows: Whether you're here for the history, the football, or just a great pint, The Sandon is where every Liverpool fan's heart beats a little faster.”

Taggy’s

Taggy’s has grown in popularity in recent years, with the 250-seater beer garden often full for every home game. The outdoor bar serves a range of draught beer, including San Miguel and Guinness.

There is live music before matches, notably Jamie Webster, who performs a range of fan favourite songs. As well as this, there is a range of Liverpool memorabilia, including an old turnstile from the Main Stand and matchworn shirts from FA Cup and Champions League finals. Located on Blessington Road, this pub is well-known for pre-match singing. It does get extremely busy for big games, though, so it is advisable to arrive early to get a spot.

The Albert

Like The King Harry, this pub is legendary for its pre-match atmosphere. The Albert is located right next to Anfield and gets extremely busy on matchdays. Fans can be heard belting out familiar Liverpool songs inside this venue.
