A matchday at Anfield is often a special experience, regardless of whether you’re a Liverpool fan or part of the travelling away support.

The area around the stadium offers plenty of choice depending on whether you want a quick bite, a lively pre-match pint or a proper sit-down meal.

FootballGroundGuide takes a look at the best options to help you plan your visit:

Best Pubs for Fans Near Anfield

If it’s atmosphere you’re after, Anfield’s pubs deliver in spades. The Sandon is steeped in Liverpool FC history and packed with singing supporters long before kick-off.

Nearby, The Albert and The Park are both hugely popular on matchdays, offering a wall of noise, scarves on display and a true pre-match buzz.

For something a little different, the Bierkeller attracts fans looking for beer, music and a festival-style atmosphere near the city centre.

Classic Matchday Food Spots Close To Anfield

Local favourites include Homebaked, located directly opposite the Kop. It is famous for its pies named after Liverpool icons, so it’s a must-visit. They also play an important role in local community projects.

Another quick option is Georgie Porgy’s, especially for breakfast and brunch, as it is known for solid portions and good value.

Restaurants Near Anfield

If you’re after a sit-down meal, Cabbage Hall, No9 Bar and Kitchen, and The Lion are all within walking distance of the stadium.

Otherwise, there are plenty of alternative options in the city centre.

Quick Fast Food Options By Anfield

If you’re not keen on food inside the stadium or are simply looking for something quick, the surrounding streets are lined with food vans on matchdays.

Most sell classic football grub such as burgers, hot dogs and chips at lower prices, making them ideal if you’re short on time.

There's also a McDonald's, which is around a 22-minute walk away, and an ASDA Superstore opposite that.

FGG Verdict: Where Should You Go?

Homebaked should be a must-visit for Liverpool fans, but if you want something a bit different, then it is best to head into Liverpool city centre to take your pick from a wide variety of food options.

In terms of matchday experience and atmosphere, you can't go wrong with either The Sandon or The Albert.
