Camp Nou redevelopment suffers setback as Barcelona face fresh delay to reopening third tier

FC Barcelona's ongoing Camp Nou renovation project has hit another hurdle after the LaLiga side revised its timetable for opening the stadium's upper tier.

The latest update means supporters will have to wait several more months before capacity begins to increase again.

Camp Nou third tier won't open until early 2027

Barcelona have reportedly pushed back plans to open the third tier of the redeveloped Camp Nou, with the latest target now falling in the early months of 2027.

Until recently, the club had been aiming to open the first section of the upper tier around October 2026 before gradually making the remaining sections available from January, increasing capacity beyond the current 62,000.

However, according to new reports in Spain, Barcelona are now working towards opening the third tier between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter of 2027, meaning February, March or April is now considered the most likely timeframe.

That delay means the stadium is expected to continue operating at around 62,000 capacity for several more months while work continues.

Despite the revised schedule, La Blaugrana remain confident they will have the full 105,000-capacity stadium available before the end of the 2026/27 season, ahead of a planned temporary return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys to allow the installation of the new roof.

Large-scale stadium projects very rarely run exactly to schedule, but this is another setback for Barcelona as supporters continue to wait for the full return to Camp Nou.

Every delay prolongs the period in which one of football's biggest clubs is unable to fully utilise its iconic home.

If Barcelona can still achieve their target of opening the entire 105,000-capacity stadium before the end of the season, this latest delay may ultimately prove manageable.
