Sunderland fans travelling to Poland for the Black Cats' UEFA Europa League clash with Lech Poznan have several options for reaching the city.

The match takes place at the Poznan Stadium on Thursday, October 22, with kick-off 5.45pm BST.

Here, Football Ground Guide explains how Sunderland fans can travel to Poznan and get to the Poznan Stadium for the game.

Getting to Poznan by plane

Flying is likely to be the most straightforward option for Sunderland supporters travelling to Poznan.

Newcastle Airport has confirmed a direct flight from Newcastle to Poznan for the fixture, operated through a sports travel company.

The current travel package is advertised from £450 per person, although supporters should note that the advertised price does not include a match ticket.

There are also several alternatives available for supporters. Ryanair operates direct flights from Newcastle to nearby Wroclaw and Gdansk, while Eurowings offers direct Newcastle-Berlin services.

From each of these cities, supporters would then need to continue their journey to Poznan by road or rail.

Connecting flights to Warsaw are also available from Newcastle through airlines such as Air France, British Airways and KLM.

Getting from Poznan Airport to the city centre

Poznan-Lawica Airport is located around 7km from the city centre, making the airport relatively convenient for Sunderland supporters.

Public transport is available directly from the airport, with buses 159 and 148 providing daytime connections towards the city centre. There is also a night bus, route 222, for supporters arriving later.

It is estimated that the journey into the city centre will take approximately 20-25 minutes, although journey times can vary depending on traffic.

Taxis are also available from the arrivals area, with the airport operating a designated taxi rank outside the terminal.

Getting to Poznan by train

Travelling by train is another option for Sunderland supporters, particularly those who choose to fly into another Polish or European city.

Poznan is well connected by rail to major Polish cities including Warsaw, Wroclaw and Gdansk, while international rail connections also make it possible to travel into Poland from neighbouring countries.

For supporters flying into Wroclaw, Gdansk or Berlin, continuing by rail could be an alternative to hiring a car or taking a coach.

Travelling from the UK entirely by train is also possible, but it is not recommended.

Getting to Poznan by coach

Coach travel could appeal to Sunderland fans looking for a cheaper alternative to flying.

Long-distance coach services connect the UK with Poznan, although the journey will take considerably longer than flying.

FlixBus currently lists London-Poznan journeys from around £66.99, with the fastest advertised journeys taking approximately 25 hours 30 minutes.

The price and journey time will depend on the departure date and availability, so supporters should check the latest timetable before booking.

How to get to Poznan Stadium

Sunderland supporters are required to travel to and from the stadium by coach.

The compulsory transport arrangement has been imposed as part of the matchday arrangements for visiting supporters in Poland.

Sunderland have confirmed that the £5 coach transport charge is included in the £36 ticket price for non-wheelchair users.

This means supporters with tickets in Sunderland's official away allocation should not make separate plans to travel to the stadium.

The club is also working to finalise transport arrangements for wheelchair users and has asked supporters requiring wheelchair spaces to contact them for further information.

Fans should follow the instructions provided by Sunderland regarding the meeting point, departure time and return journey, with further travel details expected to be communicated to successful ticket applicants.
