Man City take major step towards Etihad expansion as North Stand test event confirmed
Manchester City are edging closer to unveiling their expanded Etihad Stadium, and fans won’t have to wait long to get a first glimpse of the new North Stand in action.
With construction nearing completion, the club have now confirmed a key date that could pave the way for a record-breaking attendance before the season is out.
Man City reveal North Stand plan ahead of final game at Etihad Stadium
City have announced that the first official test event inside the expanded North Stand will take place on May 20th, marking a major milestone in the redevelopment project.
Around 3,500 supporters will be able to attend the initial event, operating at 50% of the new capacity as part of essential safety and operational checks.
If successful, the club will then open the stand at full capacity for their final Premier League home match of the 2025/26 season against Aston Villa four days later, which would allow more than 7,000 additional fans into the Etihad Stadium.
The test event itself will feature live entertainment, club legends, and fan experiences, giving supporters an early taste of what the upgraded stand will offer.

FGG says: A huge moment for City and a glimpse of what’s to come
City are setting the standard for how stadium expansions should be done – phased, fan-focused, and building genuine excitement ahead of a full opening.
For supporters, it’s a chance to be part of history, experiencing the new North Stand before it’s fully operational, while for the club, it’s another step towards increasing capacity, boosting revenue and enhancing the matchday experience.
With further developments like Medlock Square still to come, this is merely just the beginning of a wider transformation of the area around the stadium.
