San Siro project timeline revealed after AC Milan, Inter ‘push’

A new start date for works of AC Milan and Inter Milan's San Siro stadium has reportedly been set after the latest round of talks.

As revealed by SempreInter, initial work is now set to commence at the end of the 2025-26 season.

San Siro works to start at the end of the season

According to SempreInter, AC Milan and Inter Milan have held talks to set the beginning of construction work on the new San Siro project as May 2026.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, representatives from both clubs met technicians from Milan City Council in late January to set timelines on construction works for their new home.

During the meeting, the clubs requested to start the first phase of works in May, on the culmination of the 2025-26 season.

The early works are set to focus on the parking areas where the new stadium hosting both Milan giants will rise, while relocating several turnstiles, fencing and surveillance systems.

Following the submission of the required documentation for the early phase of works ahead of the large-scale new stadium project, the clubs are now awaiting formal City Council approval, while the beginning of construction will also rely on police authorisation.

How will early construction works affect fans?

Should the proposed initial steps in the construction of a new stadium go ahead as planned beginning in the off-season, fans will immediately face changes while attending the original San Siro ground.

Entrances 7,8,9 and 10 behind the red stand would find themselves closer to the stadium structure, making them unusable during the construction process, reducing the number of entry points for fans.

Work on parking areas will also make certain parking zones unavailable, forcing many vehicles, including away supporters' buses, to park further away from the stadium due to the reduced capacity.

Shuttle services are planned to transport fans to the ground from areas further out, given the enforced changes to the accessibility of the San Siro while works take place on a new home for Inter Milan and AC Milan.

FGG says: Move away from San Siro gets closer

While the first phase of planned works are arguably not the statement steps in the opening of a new stadium for Inter Milan and AC Milan, they are vital infrastructure groundworks allowing construction to ramp up in the coming years.

Should approval be received as planned, the clubs finally having a date in for the beginning of developments is important news with the ability to get their proposals up and running.

Fans will slowly feel the effects during the final years in the current San Siro but should soon see progress on their new home as time runs out at their iconic arena.
