Why Barcelona will leave Camp Nou again as dates for Montjuic return revealed

Barcelona have revealed that they will temporarily return to Montjuic as work continues on revamping Camp Nou.

In Saturday's General Assembly, club treasurer Ferran Olive answered when and why the club will briefly return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys to allow for redevelopment work to continue progressing at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona's Montjuic return set for 2027

During the General Assembly, Olive was questioned about whether Barcelona would be returning to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Olive answered that the club would be finishing the 2026/27 season at Camp Nou, but the club would have to temporarily relocate once again the following campaign.

The club treasurer explained that Barcelona will be temporarily returning to Montjuic between June 2027 and January 2028, which will allow for work on installing the roof structure at Camp Nou to take place.

Barcelona should, therefore, return to Camp Nou midway through the 2027/28 season, at which point the venue is expected to hold a capacity of around 95,000 seats.

The entire redevelopment project of Camp Nou is then anticipated to reach full completion ahead of the 2028/29 season, with an expected capacity of 105,000 spectators.

That will come just in time for Barcelona to host the Champions League final at the end of the 2028/29 season, having been awarded the showpiece event by UEFA in recent weeks.
