Anthony Elanga has enjoyed a good career in English football since breaking into the Manchester United first team in the 2020s.

The Swedish international signed for Nottingham Forest in 2023, and after two impressive years at the City Ground, he signed for Newcastle in the summer of 2025 for £55 million.

Although he is yet to play to his potential in the north east, the Newcastle faithful are well aware of his talents and have already created a new football chant for him.

For all the key information on this new Newcastle chant, we have you covered below.

Anthony Elanga chant, lyrics and tune

The Anthony Elanga chant is sung to the tune of ‘Sway' by Dean Martin. The lyrics are as follows:

When the samba rhythm starts to play,

Dance with me,

Make me sway,

Anthony Elanga down the wing,

Scoring goals,

Makes the Geordies sing

The Anthony Elanga chant was created by Newcastle fans shortly after the player joined the club, due to the excitement about having the player at St James' Park.

The song was perhaps a little premature, though, because contrary to the lyrics to the song, the winger is yet to score a goal since signing for the club.

The chant is also completely different to the one that became associated with the player during his time at Manchester United. Back then, the Red Army created a chant for him to the tune of ‘Rhythm is a Dancer', which went viral at the time.

However, Newcastle fans were always unlikely to copy a chant, particularly one made by Manchester United fans, given the animosity between the two clubs.

FGG says: A confusing chant

This chant for Anthony Elanga is unlikely to ever make it into the stands at St James' Park, as the lyrics suggest that whoever created it is quite confused. For starters, Elanga is Swedish, so why keep the lyric about ‘samba rhythm' and secondly, he's not exactly known for scoring bucketloads of goals.
