When Dan Burn signed for Newcastle from Brighton in 2022, it was a special moment for the player, as it was a return to the club that he first supported and played for as a young boy.

The 6ft 7′ defender came through the ranks at Newcastle before dropping down to non-league football and then making his way back up through the football pyramid.

Ever since signing for the Magpies in 2022, he has been a fan favourite at St James' Park. Not only do supporters see him as ‘one of their own', but he has also produced some big moments in a Newcastle shirt, not the least the opening goal in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.

As such, it's no surprise that there is a Dan Burn Newcastle chant that is often heard at St James' Park and in Newcastle away ends. Let's find out more about it.

Dan Burn chant, lyrics and tune

The Dan Burn chant is sung to the tune of ‘Pretty Green Eyes' by Force & Styles and Ultrabeat. The lyrics are as follows:

He’s from Blyth,

You’ll never ever beat Dan Burn,

He’s from Blyth,

You’ll never ever beat Dan Burn

Dan Burn chant background

As is often the case in modern football, this football chant was first created by someone on social media. Shortly after, fans started singing it in pubs before it eventually made its way to St James' Park.

According to matchgoing Newcastle fans, the chant was first belted out at St James' Park during the club's Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Leicester City in January 2023. Burn scored the winner on the night to send the Magpies through to the semi-finals.

The chant emphasises Burn's North East roots, and the fact that he grew up in Blyth, a town in Northumberland. Burn also played for Blyth Spartans and Blyth Town during his younger years.

FGG says: A simple chant, but a brilliant one

The Dan Burn chant is the type of football chant that I will always get on board with. It's original, hasn't been robbed from any other club and isn't overly complicated. There's a reason this was picked up quickly by fans in the stadium, and it will likely remaina chant sung by Newcastle fans long after Burn leaves the club.
