AC Milan ‘considering’ major San Siro change to honour Franco Baresi

AC Milan are reportedly considering a fitting new tribute to club legend Franco Baresi following his death, with the Rossoneri weighing up the possibility of renaming the famous Curva Sud at San Siro in honour of one of the greatest defenders in football history.

According to reports in Italy, the idea has gathered momentum within the club after an outpouring of tributes to the former captain, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 66.

Baresi spent his entire professional career with Milan, making more than 700 appearances across two decades while captaining the club during one of the most successful periods in its history. His iconic number six shirt was retired following his retirement in 1997, and he remained closely associated with the club as honorary vice-president.

Another option reportedly under consideration is renaming the training facilities at Milanello after Baresi, while some figures within the club believe the Vismara youth training centre would be an equally appropriate choice, allowing future academy players to develop under the inspiration of one of Milan's greatest ever servants.
