FA Trophy fixtures, history and FAQs: Third Round Draw made for 2023/24 season

Step 1 (National League) clubs enter the Isuzu FA Trophy at the Third Round proper stage, with the draw split between a north and south section. There are 13 ties in the northern section, while there are 19 ties in the southern section.

The winning clubs in the Third Round will receive £4,500, while losing teams will receive £1,250.

The FA Trophy is a competition for non-League clubs only and was created in 1969, in part to give non-professional players a chance to play at Wembley Stadium.

When is the FA Trophy Third Round Draw?

The draw was made on talkSPORT2 radio on Monday 20 November 2023.

When will the FA Trophy Third Round matches be played?

The Third Round matches will be played on Saturday 9 December. Games will generally kick off at 3pm across the country.

There are 32 FA Trophy Third Round matches to be played, with all fixtures to be decided on the day, using a penalty shootout immediately after 90 minutes. This was introduced in the 2021-22 season.

What are the stand-out games in the FA Trophy Third Round draw?

With the introduction of National League teams comes the possibility of giant killings, in non-League terms.

On the north side of the draw, City of Liverpool FC will be hoping for an upset as they welcome the National League’s Hartlepool United. City of Liverpool FC play in the Northern Premier League Division One West, which is the eighth tier of English football. The Bootle-based club was formed in 2015.

Similarly, on the south side of the draw, eighth tier Frome Town of the Southern League Division One South host Torquay United of the National League. Frome Town, nicknamed The Robins, beat National League South Worthing 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the previous round.

Elsewhere, the highest ranked team in the competition, Chesterfield, will face National League North Southport. There are four all-National League ties, including the visit of in-form Gateshead to Rochdale.
