Premier League champions Arsenal will travel to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, for a blockbuster showdown that is sure to have implications for both the title race and battle for Champions League football.

Mikel Arteta‘s side were humiliatingly knocked out of the EFL Cup by League Two Fleetwood Town on Tuesday, and will be keen to put that embarrassment firmly in the past with a statement victory over the Merseysiders.

However, the Gunners' faithful travelling to Liverpool will be wary of Andoni Iraola's Reds, who dumped Chelsea out of the cup on penalties this past Wednesday, earning a fifth consecutive win in the process.

Read on as Football Ground Guide breaks down the cost for one Arsenal fan's away day in Liverpool this weekend, including the price of the lengthy journey from London to Merseyside.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal away day cost breakdown

Thanks to Premier League clubs voting to unanimously extend the pricing cap for away tickets earlier this year, Arsenal fans only had to part with a maximum of £30 for their ticket to Sunday's showdown (if they purchased directly from the club).

The most convenient way to travel to Liverpool from London for this game is by train, though rail fare can be expensive, and £68 for the cheapest same-day return available sees inter-city transport land as the biggest expense for away supporters.

The train at that price departs from London's Euston Station at 7:49am before arriving at Liverpool Lime Street at 12:15pm (four hours, 26 minutes), while the return journey sets off from Lime Street at 7:33pm and gets into Euston at 00:53am on Monday morning (five hours, 20 minutes).

CTM Sport – the official transport partner of Arsenal – offered coach travel for £35 per person, but tickets for both of their routes have sold out.

Those making the trip should also budget another £10 for local transport, such as the tube to Euston or the bus on Merseyside.

Raising the cost for Arsenal fans further is the need for food and drink to fuel their away day, especially given the lengthy journey from London to Liverpool and back.

A pre-match lunch close by could set you back in the region of £12, with a couple of pints in a pub near Anfield adding another £12 to the bill. Throw in a bite to eat and a beer at the ground itself, as well as a quick drink and a snack before heading home, and Arsenal fans are easily looking at £40 on food and drink alone.

With another £9.50 pencilled in for an official matchday programme to remember the occasion, as well as miscellaneous expenses such as an additional drink, the total cost for one Arsenal fan's away day in Liverpool sits around £157.50.
