The UEFA Champions League is set to start this week, and ever since the league phase draw was made last month, football fans across Europe have been busy planning away trips.
Away day culture isn't something exclusive to England, with plenty of clubs across Europe boasting impressive travelling support, and we already can't wait to see some of the away end displays this season.
As ever, some fans will have to travel further than others for certain matches. Below, we run through the five most expensive away days of this season's league phase.
Champions League 2026-27: Five most expensive away days
Manchester United vs Sabah
Fans of Azerbaijan side Sabah have four long trips ahead of them this season, none more so for the match against Manchester United on Thursday, 10 September.
For Sabah fans travelling from Baku to Old Trafford, Manchester, a realistic budget is around £630 per person, based on approximately £430 for return economy flights and £200 for two nights in a mid-range Manchester hotel. This excludes match tickets, food, airport transfers and other spending, so fans are looking at around £700–£800+ per person.

Napoli vs Bodo/Glimt
Bodo/Glimt fans have had the time of their lives on European away trips in recent seasons, and a pricey trip to Naples awaits this season. Flights from Bodo to Naples cost approximately £330 return, with changes needed, while hotels in Naples cost around £250 for two nights. When you factor in local transport, ticket and food/drink costs, Bodo fans are looking at around £700 for the trip.
Atletico Madrid vs Viking
Viking FK fans are relishing their first Champions League appearance in 34 years, and demand for tickets for every away match is expected to be high. The most expensive trip is to Madrid to face Atletico at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium. Flights from Stavanger to Madrid require a changeover, adding extra costs to the trip.
Shakhtar Donetsk vs AEK Athens
Shakhtar Donetsk will play their home Champions League matches at Stamford Bridge in London this season, meaning a long journey ahead for AEK Athens supporters. While there are direct flights from Athens to London, they aren't cheap, and when you factor in London hotel costs, the trip pushes close to the £650 mark.
Subject to regulatory approvals, FC Shakhtar will play their home matches of the UEFA Champions League league phase at Stamford Bridge for the 2026/27 season.

Fenerbahce vs Liverpool
Trips to Istanbul are always filled with joy for Liverpool fans after their Champions League final triumph in the city back in 2005. However, could costs deter fans from visiting the Turkish city this season? Return flights to/from Istanbul to Manchester are around £300, but cheap accomodation in Istanbul can make the trip doable for around £600.
