Champions League 2026-27 league phase draw: Every away day for English, Scottish fans

The 2026-27 Champions League league phase will get underway on September 8 and fans now know who their club will be facing.

The draw for the league phase took place in Monaco on August 27 and 36 teams are set to be involved, including five English clubs.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool will all be competing in European football's most prestigious club competition, but there will be no Scottish teams.

Both Celtic and Hearts were involved in Champions League qualifying, but failed to reach the league phase.

Celtic were eliminated in the playoff round by Austrian side LASK, while Hearts were beaten in the second qualifying round by Austrian club Sturm Graz.

All five English clubs will play eight matches, including four away from home and fans will have the opportunity to travel around Europe for some great away days.

Here, Football Ground Guide breaks down every away day for fans of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool following the league phase draw.

Every Champions League league phase away day for English fans

Arsenal

Away days: Bayern Munich, Real Betis, Napoli and Slavia Prague

Arsenal have been handed arguably the most glamorous collection of away trips of the English sides.

First up is Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, a heavyweight European night and a return to Munich for the Gunners after their recent Champions League meetings with the German champions.

Then comes Real Betis in Seville, potentially the pick of the trips for supporters who like to combine football with a proper city break. The Benito Villamarín is one of Spain's great atmospheric grounds.

Naples provides another classic Italian away day, with Arsenal heading to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to face Napoli.

The final trip is to Prague and Slavia Prague's Fortuna Arena.

Arsenal verdict:

Manchester City


Away days: Barcelona, Porto, RB Leipzig and RC Lens

Manchester City supporters have plenty to look forward to, starting with one of European football's great destinations in Barcelona.

The visit to Camp Nou will be one of the headline ties of the entire league phase. City will also head to Portugal for a trip to Porto's Estádio do Dragão and travel to Germany to face RB Leipzig.

There will also be an away trip across the Channel to Lens, where the compact Stade Bollaert-Delelis should provide a very different atmosphere from Barcelona.

Manchester United


Away days: Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Villarreal and Como

Manchester United's return to the Champions League brings four very different away days.

The standout is Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano, a proper European occasion in one of the continent's most intense modern stadiums.

There is also a trip to Lisbon to face Sporting and another visit to Spain to take on Villarreal.

The most intriguing destination is Como, with United visiting Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on the shores of Lake Como. It is hard to imagine many Champions League away day backdrops being more picturesque.

Manchester United verdict:

Best atmosphere: Atletico Madrid

Best ground: Atletico Madrid

Aston Villa


Away days:  Barcelona, Club Brugge, Galatasaray and Slavia Prague

Villa supporters have got a superb European itinerary.

The big one is Barcelona, while Galatasaray in Istanbul offers the sort of European atmosphere that away fans will relish.

Belgium brings an interesting trip to Club Brugge's Jan Breydelstadion and they will also visit to Prague to face Slavia.

Aston Villa verdict:

Best atmosphere: Galatasaray

Liverpool


Away days: Inter Milan, Club Brugge, Fenerbahce and LASK

Liverpool have perhaps the most varied itinerary of the five English clubs.

The headline trip is Inter Milan at San Siro and they will also visit Belgium to take on Club Brugge.

Liverpool will also enjoy one of the great European away days with a trip to Fenerbahçe in Istanbul. The Turkish club's home, the Chobani Stadium Fenerbahçe Sukru Saracoglu Sports Complex, is in Kadıkoy and is renowned for its intimidating atmosphere.

The final trip is to Austria to face LASK, the club that ended Celtic's Champions League hopes in qualifying.

Liverpool verdict:

Best trip: Inter Milan

Best atmosphere: Fenerbahce

Best ground: Inter Milan
