Joelinton has had an interesting career at Newcastle, to say the least. Signed as a striker in 2019 for a then club-record fee of £40 million, the Brazilian looked out of his depth and was lambasted by the club's supporters for two seasons.
However, after Eddie Howe became the manager in November 2021, his fortunes flipped. Howe saw something in Joelinton and transformed him into a box-to-box midfielder, and he has never looked back since.
His performances in modified completely won the fans over, so much so that he now has his own football chant, which is sung proudly at St James' Park and in Newcastle away ends.
Keep reading for all the key information on the Joelinton chant, including the lyrics and tune.
Joelinton chant, lyrics and tune
The Joelinton chant is sung to the tune of ‘She's Electric' by Oasis. This is the same tune that Tottenham fans use for their Rodrigo Bentancur chant. The lyrics to the Joelinton chant are as follows:
He’s Brazilian,
He only cost 40 million,
And we think he’s f***ing brilliant,
It's Joelinton
Joelinton chant background
There isn't an awful lot to say about the Joelinton chant, as the lyrics tell you all you need to know. One interesting part of the song is the reference to his price tag being ‘only' 40 million.
This is interesting because when Joelinton was struggling up front for Steve Bruce, everyone in the country felt like it was £40 million down the drain.
However, it has been his performances in midfield that earned him this song, and in fairness, £40 million now lo longer looks a bad price for an all-action midfielder.
In an interview with Soccer Am back in 2023, Joelinton expressed his gratitude to the Toon Army for the chant and even admitted that he sings it himself in the shower.

FGG says: A feel-good story
It's very rare that you see a big-money signing recover from a difficult start at a new club, particularly when that difficult start lasts for more than two years. However, Joelinton's performances since 2021 and this chant should serve as a reminder of what is possible.
