Aston Villa‘s return to Europe's top table is set to continue on November 3, when they travel to face Barcelona in the Champions League, and the away fans are sure to bring plenty of business to the best pubs in town.

The Lions' faithful have enjoyed their continental trips in recent years under Unai Emery, and supporters will find plenty to do in Barcelona, from visiting the Gothic Quarter and its iconic cathedral, to taking the cable car up Montjuic Hill towards the impressive castle perched atop it.

However, those lucky enough to have tickets to this huge match should also take the time to enjoy the city's culinary delights, and grab a pre-match drink at one of the best pubs in Barcelona while they are at it.

Heading over yourself? Read on as Football Ground Guide takes a look at some of the best places for Aston Villa fans to eat and drink in Barcelona.

Best Pubs in Barcelona for Aston Villa fans

Flaherty’s Irish Pub – Placa de Joaquim Xirau, s/n, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Flaherty's Irish Pub, found near Las Ramblas, will be a familiar type of spot for fans visiting Barcelona for the match.

With 11 beers on tap and a great stock of bottled beer, wine and spirits, supporters should have no problem finding something to their tastes, while the pub regularly update their impressive food offerings, which feature both traditional Irish pub grub and local favourites.

Belushi’s – Carrer de Bergara, 3, Eixample, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

Belushi's is an international sports bar chain, and its Barcelona spot next to Placa de Catalunya at the top of La Rambla is popular with both locals and visitors from abroad.

Boasting nine TVs and three projector screens, fans will find no shortage of football to enjoy, not to mention the range of drinks from craft beers to cocktails, as well as the food on offer, including burgers, wings and quesadillas.

The Black Horse – Carrer de l'Allada-Vermell, 16, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

A quieter spot if you are looking for somewhere away from the bustle of the Ramblas area, The Black Horse offers a laid back atmosphere to enjoy a drink before heading to the game or catching it on one of the screens.

This pub certainly wins some style points for its exposed stonework, alongside the antiques and paintings on display.

McCarthy’s Bar – Via Laietana, 44, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain

Another Irish pub to add to the list, McCarthy's Bar is a popular place for tourists to watch the match or grab a pre-game pint.

All of the staff are native English speakers and can offer plenty of advice about the city, but keep in mind that seating is limited, and it can get busy around major events.

Sports Bar – Carrer de la Marina, 290, Eixample, 08013 Barcelona, Spain

The straightforward name Sports Bar might sound like just the right place to grab a drink, but this spot is mostly known for its handmade pizza.

Of course you can also enjoy great service at the bar itself, but make sure to sample the Italian cuisine while enjoying the sport on one of the lively restaurant's screens.

Can Culleretes – Carrer d'en Quintana, 5, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain

First opening its doors in 1786, Carrer Quintana is the oldest restaurant in Catalonia and the second oldest in Spain, but the traditional cooking on offer is more than a mere novelty.

The restaurant opens Tuesday-Saturday for lunch (1:30pm–4pm) and dinner (8pm-10:45pm), while it serves diners lunch only on Sundays, and is closed on Mondays.

Quimet & Quimet – Carrer del Poeta Cabanyes, 25, Sants-Montjuic, 08004 Barcelona, Spain

Another historical landmark on the Barcelona food circuit, Quimet & Quimet is an iconic standing-room-only tapas bar that has been run by the same family for five generations, dating back to 1914.

Quimet & Quimet is a unique spot known for its creative montaditos, tapas and preserves, as well as the more than 500 bottles of wine that line its shelves. Make sure to get there early, as it gets busy often.
