After five more rounds of Championship clashes in September, the second division is starting to take shape, and fans are racking up the miles to support their clubs on the road.
With three teams from Wales competing in the league, supporters are often tasked with hundreds of miles of travelling between grounds, though the cluster of sides in the midlands benefit from shorter trips when they face each other.
Likewise, the abundance of football clubs in London means that the capital's competitors tend to find their journeys on the shorter side.
Read on as Football Ground Guide takes a look at which Championship fans travelled the furthest in September 2026, using straight-line distances from stadium to stadium.
Norwich City fans travelled the furthest in September
Amongst all Championship fans, Norwich City‘s topped the list for distance travelled in September, with 445 miles split across away days against Stoke City (148 miles), Sheffield United (127 miles) and Middlesbrough (170 miles).
In second place is the Southampton faithful, who amassed 437 miles when journeying to Birmingham City (110 miles), Lincoln City (164 miles) and Wrexham (163 miles).
Weighing in at third on the list is North Wales' Red Dragons themselves, with 433 miles on the clock, thanks to their three away fixtures – Millwall, Swansea and West Ham.
Wrexham fans travelled 105 miles to face the Swans, though their trips to London made up the bulk of the distance, with 164 and 165 mile journeys required to reach The London Stadium and The Den.
Middlesbrough supporters covered the fourth-most distance of any Championship fans in September, visiting Burnley (68 miles), Queens Park Rangers (216 miles) and Birmingham (148 miles).
The only club in the top five that played two away fixtures rather than three is Millwall, whose fans racked up 405 miles heading to Middlesbrough (219 miles) and Blackburn Rovers (186 miles).
West Brom fans had the shortest September trips
At the opposite end of the scale are West Bromwich Albion fans, whose location in the West Midlands meant they only totalled 44 miles of travel to away games against Derby County (35 miles) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (nine miles).
Sheffield United supporters also enjoyed a relatively simple September on the road, journeying 88 miles to face Blackburn (49 miles) and Stoke City (39 miles).
Londoners QPR made a quick 12-mile trip across the capital to face Charlton Athletic, though their clash against West Brom saw fans travel a contrastingly-lengthy 101 miles, taking their September total up to 113 miles.
Fourth from bottom are Birmingham City, whose fans made the 134-mile journey to Norwich, before a more local 35 mile skip over to Derby, tallying 169 miles overall last month.
West Ham were disappointingly relegated from the Premier League in 2025-26, but their demotion to the Championship saw the return of their derby with Millwall (four miles) in September.
The Irons' other away clash for the month was against Bolton Wanderers, who lie 176 miles to the north west as the crow flies. All-in-all, West Ham fans travelled 180 miles.
