Last season was a desperately poor one for Luton Town as they suffered relegation from the Championship in their first year back in the division following relegation from the Premier League a year earlier.
Back-to-back relegations mean that the Hatters start the upcoming campaign in League One and anything other than an immediate return to the second tier would be deemed unacceptable by the fans of the club.
What makes the situation more pressing is the fact that the club are currently in the midst of building a new stadium at Power Court. When the plan was signed off, the club were in the Premier League, but now they are in the third tier, the prospect of a 25,000-seater stadium doesn't look too clever.
On the positive side, Luton are used to yo-yoing between divisions, so there will be belief among supporters and the club's hierarchy that they can come back from their current position and at least be back in the Championship by the time the stadium is completed.
